On Thursday, R. Kelly’s daughter made the first public statement surrounding the troubling reports after the airing of Lifetime doc “Surving R. Kelly.”
Buku Abi, formerly known as Joann Kelly, shared her thoughts via Instastories where she apologized for her silence, but also asked for understanding as her family has struggled to deal with living in the shadow of her father’s allegations for years.
bu.k.uShe say she love me, but I want something that’s real. //////// Yeah Yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah.
Kelly, who is the eldest daughter of Robert and Andrea, said she took three days contemplating whether she should speak out.
“I just want you to understand that devastated is an understatement for all that I feel currently,” she wrote. “I pray for all the women and families who have been affected by my father’s actions,” she continued.
She said that her, her mother and siblings all have a strained relationship with Kelly and have not spoken to him for years.
“The same monster you all confronting me about is my father. I am well aware of who and what he is. I grew up in that house.” However, she felt it necessary to speak regarding the attacks on the character of her loved ones. Andrea Kelly, Abi’s mother, was one of the survivors featured in the documentary who shared her dark journey on rising above years of abuse and manipulation.
Abi’s statements come on the same day as New York police officials named Donnel Russell, a business associate of R.Kelly’s, as a person in the ongoing investigation surrounding a shooting threat that was phoned into a New York venue airing the Lifetime docuseries last month. Police tracked the number down to a 773 area code, which they believe is connected to Russell, according to TMZ.
